Coronavirus (Covid-19) announcement
Dear Aero Club members,
In response to the rapidly developing situation in the UK surrounding COVID-19, we regret to inform you that Cambridge Aero Club will be closing with immediate effect in order to safeguard members and staff. We are currently planning to reopen in early May but will review this in due course and keep you updated.
We understand this will be a disappointment for those of you who were hoping to fly in the upcoming weeks. However, it is our duty not to expose our members and staff to undue risk. The government currently advises that all forms of social contact should be avoided to contain the spread of COVID-19, and unfortunately social contact is an unavoidable consequence of what we do.
All Aero Club flights, both dual and solo, until 1 May have therefore been cancelled, and the Aero Club premises will be closed to visitors.
Those members with their own aircraft can gain access via the FBO ‘Jet Centre’ as the Cambridge Airport itself has not yet announced any closures.
Furthermore, the GASCo Safety Evening on 21 April has been postponed, as have the upcoming GroundSchoolclasses and the SkyBirdssocial evening.
We are working on expanding the amount of resources we can offer you so that you can keep learning without coming in.
The reception desk will be staffed periodically, unless and until this is precluded by government guidelines. The email inbox will be monitored constantly as staff are working from home and we would request that this be the preferred method of contact for any enquiries you may have.
Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to flying again.

Instrument training & the IR(R) this season
Are you planning on refreshing your flying skills this season?
The Cambridge Aero Club team of Instrument rated instructors are ready and waiting to guide you down the ILS to success!
The autumn and winter weather often brings poor visibility and layers of stratus and strato-cu cloud with good visibility on top, these are just the conditions in which an instrument qualification helps to keep you flying safely.
Cambridge Aero Club aircraft are ideally equipped for instrument training and our airport is ideal – with good lighting and excellent instrument approaches & ATC support, along with our team of dedicated Instructors and examiners that help to make flying “under the hood” a doddle!
Along with training pilots for the intital IR(R), (previously the IMC rating), and supporting through the groundschool element of the course, we are pleased to offer bespoke recurrency training for the renewal or revalidation of the full IR, and our newest course on offer, the CBIR – please ask a member of the team for details and a personal assessment to assist with scheduling and an action plan.
Our instrument training rates are inclusive of all ILS/NDB & GPS approaches here at Cambridge, when using our C172 fleet.
Both Ed and Alan have excellent availability throughout January and February.
For more information regarding all of our training courses can be found on our website, or by calling us on 01223 373717 or emailing us @ reception@cambridgeaeroclub.com
