British Women’s Pilot Association (BWPA) bursaries

Did you know about the multiple bursaries that the British Women’s Pilot Association (BWPA) offer to women pilots?

As we’re all unable to fly for the time being, why not check out these fantastic opportunities – you may well qualify for one, and could receive funding in time for our grand re-opening and the blue skies of summer!

Scholarships range from funding towards PPL training, to further qualifications (instructor’s rating, aerobatics rating…) to ATPL ground school programmes.

The deadline for applications is the 30th of April, and general requirements are BWPA membership (joining is easy), and being a woman(!). The bursaries are not restricted to UK citizens or residents.

The application process involves an online form detailing your motivation and evidence that you fit the requirements, and an interview. The emphasis throughout is on demonstrating that you’d use the bursary well; that you’d attain the qualification you’re aiming for, and that this would seriously benefit your flying future. To this end, mention flying hours, genuine interest in an aviation-filled future, extra-curriculars that demonstrate the skills they’re looking for, and anything else that makes you stand out. Feel free to send in CVs and application drafts for help with this!

Instrument training & the IR(R) this season

Are you planning on refreshing your flying skills this season?

The Cambridge Aero Club team of Instrument rated instructors are ready and waiting to guide you down the ILS to success!

The autumn and winter weather often brings poor visibility and layers of stratus and strato-cu cloud with good visibility on top, these are just the conditions in which an instrument qualification helps to keep you flying safely.

Cambridge Aero Club aircraft are ideally equipped for instrument training and our airport is ideal – with good lighting and excellent instrument approaches & ATC support, along with our team of dedicated Instructors and examiners that help to make flying “under the hood” a doddle!

Along with training pilots for the intital IR(R), (previously the IMC rating), and supporting through the groundschool element of the course, we are pleased to offer bespoke recurrency training for the renewal or revalidation of the full IR, and our newest course on offer, the CBIR – please ask a member of the team for details and a personal assessment to assist with scheduling and an action plan.

Our instrument training rates are inclusive of all ILS/NDB & GPS approaches here at Cambridge, when using our C172 fleet.

Both Ed and Alan have excellent availability throughout January and February.

For more information regarding all of our training courses can be found on our website, or by calling us on 01223 373717 or emailing us @ reception@cambridgeaeroclub.com
